nib NZ launches first-in-market insurance to support parents visiting children living in NZ
nib New Zealand today announced the launch of a specialised inbound visitor insurance product, designed to meet the unique needs of Parent Boost visa holders who have children living and working in New Zealand.
The new Parent Boost Insurance product sits within nib New Zealand’s OrbitProtect brand, which provides health and travel insurance to almost 40,000 inbound international visitors, students and workers in New Zealand.
The New Zealand Government’s new multi-entry Parent Boost Visa aims to support stronger family connections by allowing eligible parents of New Zealand citizens or residents to spend extended, meaningful time in New Zealand while maintaining close ties to their home country. Valid for five years with the option to reapply for a further five years, it allows multiple visits and ongoing family connections without creating a pathway to residency. Applications open on Monday 29 September.
nib New Zealand’s new insurance product is designed to align with the requirements set by the New Zealand Government within the new Parent Boost Visa. The visa was announced by the Hon. Erica Stanford, Minister for Immigration, in June.
A key condition of the Government’s visa is that applicants are required to buy specialised insurance to cover their time in New Zealand. This is designed to help ease pressure on New Zealand’s public health system.
nib’s OrbitProtect Parent Boost insurance is a first-in-market product, primarily tailored to cover emergency and unexpected medical events, cancer and repatriation.
nib NZ Chief Executive Officer, Skye Daniels said: “This goes to the heart of what nib NZ does best: supporting people’s better health and wellbeing and providing insurance cover for a range of unexpected medical events. We hope this cover will play a part in bringing together more whānau from across the world.”
Under the new visa requirements, visa holders must have health insurance coverage for the first 12 months of their visa, regardless of their intended length of stay in New Zealand. After the initial 12 months, insurance is only required while the visa holder is in New Zealand.
nib’s Parent Boost insurance, which meets the conditions set by the Government, covers: • Unexpected or emergency medical and cancer treatment • Continuing cancer treatment • Repatriation cover • Bereavement cover
The insurance can be purchased from orbitprotect.co.nz, pending an Approval in Principle following a successful visa application from Immigration New Zealand.
