Award-winning care for Kiwi
This preventative approach is reflected in the work of nib Clinical Advisor and Health Coach Rebekka Costello, who was named the Health Coaches Australasia and New Zealand Association (HCANZA) Health Equity Award Winner for 2025.
The award recognises Rebekka’s contribution to advancing health equity programmes and coaching aimed at improving access, outcomes and support for underserved communities.
Rebekka, a former Emergency Department Registered nurse, says coaching plays an important role in bridging gaps in the healthcare system.
She shares the example of supporting Aroha*, a young mother of three, who was facing an early cancer diagnosis and a high-risk surgery.
nib supported her to access mental health services, connected Aroha with private specialists, and worked through practical lifestyle goals like sleep and nutrition.
Thanks to this wrap-around care, Aroha successfully prepared for surgery, reduced her chronic pain, and returned to day-to-day life with greater confidence and stability.
